Greenhouses

Building greenhouses is an effective and proven way to help communities and schools move towards self-sufficiency. Food security is increasingly under threat; issues such as climate change and wars have a major impact on structural food supplies. Greenhouses provide schools with a permanent source of income and food, allowing a school to be self-sufficient and no longer dependent on support.

ChildsLife aims to install a greenhouse at every school in the ChildsLife program. Tomatoes or other crops are grown in the greenhouse. The harvest of the greenhouse is used in two ways: The vegetables are used in the school feeding program, and are sold at local markets. The income generated is invested in the school for maintenance of the school, teaching materials and greenhouse costs.
