The ongoing devastating floods in Kenya have already claimed the lives of more than 50 people and left at least 50,000 people homeless. Roads and entire neighbourhoods are under water, crops have been destroyed, and infrastructure, schools, homes and businesses have been damaged or even completely washed away.
Unfortunately, the danger has not yet passed. Heavy rains continue, and a dam near the Kibera slum is at risk of bursting.
Within the ChildsLife Live Learn Earn program for HIV mothers in the Kibera and Mukuru slums in Nairobi, 30 mothers and their families have been severely affected by the floods. Their homes are flooded and most of their belongings have been lost. Many families have been forced to seek shelter in schools and churches.
The floods have completely disrupted their lives.
Together with their children, these mothers are now left with no home, no possessions, and no certainty about the days ahead. They do not know where to go, and even their next meal is not guaranteed.
Even in this crisis, ChildsLife is ready to respond.
Our team is working hard to bring affected families to safety and provide emergency support.
