On March 8 – International Women’s Day – people around the world reflect on equal rights, freedom, and opportunities for women and girls. Yet for many girls, this freedom is still far from guaranteed.
At ChildsLife, we believe that investing in women and girls creates lasting change. Through programs focused on education, care, WASH, microcredit, and the prevention of female genital mutilation, we empower women and girls to build their own futures.
Fighting FGM in Kenya
An important part of this work is our fight against female genital mutilation (FGM). In Kuria, Kenya, many girls are still at risk of becoming victims of this violent and illegal practice.
Since 2019, ChildsLife has been working together with schools, families, and local communities to prevent FGM. Through education, awareness, and direct protection of girls, we are helping communities challenge and change this deeply rooted tradition.
The results of this approach are encouraging. Over the past years, nearly 3,000 girls have been reached, and 98% of them were spared from FGM.
Protecting more girls
While important progress has been made, many girls still need protection. With the launch of our next program, ChildsLife aims to protect another 800 girls and continue working with communities to create lasting change.
This International Women’s Day, we ask for extra attention and support for this cause. Together we can ensure that girls grow up safe, go to school, and have the freedom to shape their own future.
💜 Join us and support the ChildsLife program to end FGM.
