Makueni is a remote region in Kenya east of the capital Nairobi. This region is plagued by extreme drought and poverty is high. There is a lot of illiteracy and low literacy because many inhabitants never had the possibility to go to school.
Parents do realize that education is important for their children to give them the chance to have a better future and escape the poverty. ChildsLife has been active in this region for years and has built and renovated several primary schools. Currently ChildsLife works together with primary schools of three communities in Makueni that benefit from the water and school renovation program, giving more than 1300 children access to education.
